Beta-alanine is an organic compound, white powder or crystal, which is easily soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol. Long term supplementation of Alanine will increase the content of carnosine, thus improving the ability of repeated high-intensity exercise.

Carnosine is a dipeptide containing L-histidine, which exists in various human tissues and has the highest concentration in skeletal muscle. It is formed by L-alanine and L-histidine. It can be rapidly decomposed into ß - alanine and L - histidine after human ingestion.

Function and Application

• Beta-alanine can promote the production of carnosine to achieve the effect of muscle enhancement;

• Alanine powder can strengthen muscles, relieve fatigue and enhance exercise endurance.

• The increase of alanine on carnosine level is more obvious in the trained muscles than in the untrained muscles of athletes. Therefore, the carnosine of the arm (deltoid) muscle group of canoeists is more than that of the leg (soleus+gastrocnemius) muscle group, while the opposite is observed in cyclists. Compared with non swimmers, the levels of carnosine in deltoid muscle and gastrocnemius muscle of swimmers increased significantly. These findings suggest that training status and/or exercise training itself may be determinants of carnosine load, but whether these effects are due to acute exercise and/or chronic adaptation of training remains to be determined.
