Centella asiatica extract 's active ingredients---Asiaticoside is an organic compound with the formula C48H78O19.  The effectiveness of Centella asiatica extract has also been demonstrated in contemporary clinical studies. In dermatology and cosmetics, it promotes wound healing, has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing and anti-edema effects,

Centella asiatica extract is suitable for use in anti-acne and anti-aging products, products for dry and irritated skin, and eye care products. In dietary supplements, on the other hand, it will be used as an ingredient with anti-atherosclerotic and brain-supporting effects.

Centella asiatica extract and its bioactive constituent, asiatic acid (Aa) display a decrease in the wound area and faster healing by increasing collagen synthesis, and cellular proliferation, fibroblast division and re-epithelialization during proliferative and remodeling phases of wound healing. CAE and Aa also act in the inflammatory phase by inhibiting recruitment of immune defense cells, reducing synthesis of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and and IL-1β) and growth factors (TGF-β, PDGF and VEGF). Moreover, Aa inhibits the increase of serum levels of IL-17/IL-23.
