Apigenin 98% mainly comes from celery extract, is a kind of flavonoid, light yellow to light yellowish green powder, the main function is anti-tumor, protect cardiovascular and cerebrovascular, mainly used in the medical field.

Molecular mechanism of cardioprotective effect of apigenin

Apigenin has a broad spectrum of biological properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and neuroprotective effects. Apigenin (125 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg) attenuates doxorubicin (ADR) (24 mg/kg)-induced myocardial injury. Apigenin inhibits the release of serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST). Apigenin reduces serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release. Apigenin reduces serum creatine kinase (CK) levels.

In addition, apigenin inhibits cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) in the CYP2C9 RECO system (a purified recombinant enzyme system containing recombinant human CYP2C9, P450 reductase, cytochrome b5 and liposomes) with a Ki of 2 μM. Apigenin inhibits cell proliferation. On day 7, the growth inhibition rate (IR) of 20, 40 and 80 μM apigenin was 38%, 71% and 99%, respectively. Clonal formation of SGC-7901 cells was inhibited in a dose- and time-dependent manner following 24 or 48 h exposure to apigenin. After treatment with apigenin for 24 and 48 hours, the cloning efficiencies at 80 μM were 9.8% and 5%, respectively, compared with 40.4% and 43.4% in the control group.
