What's is shikimic?
Shikimic acid is extracted from star anise, used as a medical intermediate.
Shikimic acid is an organic compound with the formula C7H10O5. It is colorless or white acicular crystal. At 20℃ water solubility of 18%, slightly soluble in ethanol, ether, almost insoluble in chloroform, benzene. Shikimic acid can inhibit platelet aggregation, arteriovenous thrombosis and cerebral thrombosis by affecting arachidonic acid metabolism, and has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Shikimic acid can also be used as an intermediate of antiviral and anticancer drugs.
